Business Advisory Council
History: In 1989, HB 140 Created Business Advisory Councils. Each city, exempted village, and county school district is required by law to appoint a business advisory council to advise and provide recommendations to the boards of education on matters specified by the local boards of education.
Mission: The mission of the Preble County BAC is to effectively utilize all available resources to facilitate the ongoing development of social, academic, and vocational needs of our youth through the collective efforts of education, business, and community.
Membership: The Preble County Business Advisory Council consists of representatives from various Preble County businesses, actively involved citizens from various Preble County communities, a school board member from the Eaton Community School District, a member from the Preble County ESC Governing Board, and the superintendents from the Preble County school districts.
Goal: To inform students about the world of work opportunities in Preble County, to raise students awareness of Preble County employers and the variety of job opportunities within the county, as well as help students identify skills and strategies for obtaining work and being successful in the work environment.
Scope of Work: The Business Advisory Council visits National Trail High School, Preble Shawnee High School, Tri-County North High School, Twin Valley South High School, and Eaton High School annually, meeting with juniors at each school. A guest company is featured for each visit. Representatives from the guest company share information about their company and job opportunities available in Preble County. BAC members share information about their own companies and then lead a discussion on skills and strategies for obtaining work, covering topics such as resume preparation, how to locate opportunities, completing applications, interviewing, preparation, and employer expectations.
If you are interested in supporting the Business Advisory Council by being a guest company or presenter, contact the chamber.
